Tooele

Patriotic ride

A patriotic ride, honoring past, present and future veterans will be held Saturday, July 17 at Harley Davidson 2928 S. State Street, Salt Lake City. The ride will benefit a women’s military service monument. The ride will come through Tooele with a wreath placed a Veteran’s Memorial Square.

Settlement Canyon Irrigation

Little Miss Tooele County pageant

The little Miss Tooele County Pageant will be held Saturday, July 31 at 10 a.m. at the Deseret Peak Complex. Girls must be residents of Tooele County to enter. Categories: Tiny Miss for ages 3-6, Little Miss for ages 7-9 and Junior Miss for ages 10-12. BACA Poker Run

The 5th Annual Poker Run sponsored by the Western Utah Chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse will be held July 17 with registration from 10 a.m. to noon at Kravers in Stansbury Park and continuing at 3 p.m. at Tracks in Tooele. Pre-registration and social will be held July 16 at Tracks Brewing Company from 6-10 p.m. Bike games, pulled pork dinner, raffle prizes and fun. Cost is $15 for single or $25 for double.

Grantsville

Pioneer Day celebration

Pioneer Day Pageant “Faith in Every Footstep” performances Friday, July 23 and Saturday, July 24 at 8:45 p.m. or dusk. Presented behind the Grantsville High seminary, 113 E. Grantsville Irrigation

Grantsville Irrigation has issued a total of three regular turns to agricultural users. Metered users are allotted 250,000 gallons per share. Stockton

5K run

Stockton Days first 5K run will be Aug. 28. Sign in begins at 6:30 a.m., the run begins at 7 a.m. Run will conclude at Stockton Ball Park with a flag raising ceremony and annual fireman’s fundraiser breakfast. 5K run entry fee $15. Stockton Days

Stockton Days will be held Aug. 28 when the festivities will begin with an early breakfast, a fundraiser sponsored by the Stockton Fire Dept. The family carnival begins at 10 a.m. with games, contests, food and fun throughout the day. The Little Mr. and Miss Stockton Pageant will begin at 1 p.m. The Dutch oven cook-off, sanctioned by IDOS, has been cooking all day and will be ready to judge at 2 p.m. Followed by the traditional bingo game, raffle drawing, and potluck dinner in the evening. The Stockton Days festivities will wrap up with a karaoke contest, and youth dance and dance contest with Ron Baum and Dead End Alley Entertainment. Now taking registrations for vendor booths, $30. Erda Days 5K and 1K

This year’s Erda Days 5K and kids 1K races will be held Saturday, July 17 at 7 a.m., at the Blake and Maren Beazer home (4336 Liddell Lane). Registration will begin at 6:30 a.m. on the 17th. Note the earlier time, so you can get your float ready for the parade! Registration is free; Erda Days T-shirts will be available for $10. Erda Days parade

Come join your neighbors and have fun at the Erda Days parade on Saturday, July 17. Doyle and Vicki Taylor will be honored this year as the Grand Marshals. The theme for the parade this year will be Erda Neighbors. The grand prize will be awarded for neighborhood involvement as well as creativity. The more neighbors you involve the better the chance for winning. Line-up begins at 9 a.m., with judging at 9:30 a.m. and the parade starts at 10 a.m. All walkers, bike riders and small motorized vehicles, will line-up on the south end of Liddell Lane. The horses will line-up at the north end of Liddell Lane and all trucks, floats, and larger entries will line-up on Erda Way at the corner of Liddell Lane heading west. Summer reading canceled

The Tooele County Bookmobile Library is canceling the 2010 Summer Reading Program due to the closure of the library and having no suitable physical accommodation for the Reading Program. We will continue to promote the children’s reading through programs in the near future. We deeply regret any inconvenience to our patrons.

THS Majestix

THS Majestix colorguard team twirls flags all year long we want to use some of our flags to make the troops smile. Our group is raising our funds throughout the year, and at the same time we are making an awesome gift. For a $1 donation we have flags for you to sign your name on. Our goal is to collect 5,000 signatures on our flags and send them and a special gift to the troops serving our country overseas. SHS drama children’s workshop

The Stansbury High School drama program is holding a summer children’s workshop Aug. 2-13. The workshop will be split for children grades fifth and under which will be Aug. 2-6 and children grades 6-8 will be Aug. 9-13. Workshops will take place at SHS from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a recital for family the last day of classes. Cost is $75 which includes a daily snack and workshop T-shirt. Classes offered: musical theater performance, dance for theater, basic acting skills and improvisation. Tooele Junior High School summer office hours 7 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday. Closed on Fridays. Office will be closed July 22-29. Students who have not yet registered for the 2010-2011 school year, can call TJHS after Aug. 1. August registration dates are Aug. 11 for seventh graders and Aug. 12 for eighth graders. Tooele Applied Technology College is sponsoring monthly mini-lessons at their main campus, I.T. room located at 66 W. Vine Street (the former school board office). English as a Second Language

Obedience Classes

KDK9s Basic Obedience Class for all ages of dogs. Six week class starts July 26, at 6 p.m. The first class will be held at Cal Ranch. $89 per dog, limit 15 dogs per class. Meal and message

We would like to invite you for a meal and message at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 500 North, three blocks east. Fundraiser for Kendall McBride

Kicking Cancer’s Can

A 5K fun run, bake sale, raffle and activity day will be held Aug. 7 at Parker’s Park in Tooele to help Candice Heaps and her family. Candice, a mother of six, is battling Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. The event will start at 5 p.m. with a bake sale, BBQ, face painting and music. The 5K run will start at 8 p.m. Pre-registration is on-going until July 30 which can be done online at kickingcancerscan.blogspot.com, in person at Macey’s Food & Drug or by mail (cash or check only) to Kicking Cancer’s Can, 1365 Berra Blvd., Tooele, UT 84074. Harmony Hospice

Harmony Hospice is looking for volunteers. Your time can make a difference in someone’s life. Variety of services needed: lawn care, patient visting. Time needed on Sunday for a family for church services. Also veterans are wanted for veteran patients. Please call Coy at 435-830-2674.

CASA volunteers

Court appointed special advocate (CASA) volunteers are needed to be an advocate for abused and neglected children assisting as the guardian ad Litem attorney who represents the child’s best interest. No special education or background is necessary. Volunteers are needed for one year to visit with the child at least twice a month for a total of six to eight hours a month. Volunteers must be 21 years or older, pass a BCI and child abuse registry screening and complete training. For more information please contact Mary Lucero at maryal@email.utcourts.gov.

Food pantry

The First Baptist Church in Tooele is offering an emergency food pantry and clothing closet to meet the needs of our community. Anyone with clothing needs is welcome. The food pantry is available for emergency needs. Hours of operation are Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. We are located at 580 S. Main Street, Tooele. For more information call 882-2048.

Volunteer opportunity

Rocky Mountain Care Foundation, a nonprofit organization is looking for volunteers in Tooele. Our volunteers provide respite care, friendly visits, conversation, light household chores, and other needs to terminally ill patients who are on our hospice services. Moose Lodge

Poker run

The Moose Lodge will be sponsoring a poker run on Aug. 21. Proceeds to benefit Arden Allred, husband of Linda Young, who is suffering from cancer. $50 donation to enter. Starting at the Moose Lodge at 11 a.m., from there we’ll hit the following stops: Tracks, All Star Lanes, Elks Lodge, Corner Pocket, Eagles Lodge, J&J’s and then back to the Moose Lodge for dinner. Diagnostic Clinic

The Diagnostic Clinic is held every Wednesday from 3-6 p.m. at 151 N. Main St. in the Extention Service Library. It is open to the public and will run until the end of September. Anyone having a problem with something growing on their property is welcome. If possible, bring in a small cutting or collect a sampling of what is growing which will aid in diagnosing the problem. Volunteer opportunities

The Tooele County Master Gardeners have a number of volunteers available to give presentations on a variety of garden topics. If your organization would like to have a volunteer come and speak about gardening at a meeting, call Marianne Rutishauser, the volunteer coordinator, at 882-1485. Quilters

Tooele County Quilters are meeting Tuesday July 20 at 9:30 a.m. at the Extension Office located 151 N. Main. We have a special guest Janie Argyle coming to teach a six-hour class on different quilting techniques. Members need to bring $1 to purchase her information packet. For nonmembers the price is $6. Beds for sale

LaForge Encore Theatre Company is selling the beds that were used in their recent production of “Annie.” The single beds that are 5 feet long and 2 1/2 feet wide are $18 and the bunk beds same size and they’re $25. Relay for Life

Tooele County Relay for Life is looking for more teams to participate in this life-changing event. The event will begin on Aug. 13 at 5 p.m. and end on Aug. 14 at 1 p.m. at the Deseret Peak Complex Soccer Field. There will be food and entertainment for the entire family. Freemasons meeting dates

The Tooele area Freemasons host two monthly meet-up groups for those interested in learning more about Freemasonry and its principles. Safe driving class

AARP safe driving class sponsored by Mountain West Medical Center Senior Circle will be held on Friday, July 30 at MWMC. The class will run from 9-11:30 a.m. Lunch 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., furnished by MWMC Senior Circle. Class resumes from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Cost is $14 with a certificate issued at the end of the class that may get you a discount on your insurance for three years. All participants must sign up prior to the day of the class. AARP members will receive a $2 discount on showing a current AARP membership card. Alzheimer’s caregivers

A support group for Alzheimer’s caregivers is open to anyone caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia. Next meeting is Tuesday, July 20, 2:30-3:30 p.m. at the Tooele Senior Citizens Center, 59 E. Vine Street. Program openings

Tooele County Aging has openings in an alternative, income-based program designed to help seniors remain independent. CNAs help keep them in their homes safely, provide personal care, do house keeping and run errands. If interested please contact Jolene Shields at 843-4104 or 4105.

Tooele seniors

Need help to lose those extra pounds? We can help. TOPS is a weight loss support group open to men, women teens and pre-teens. LDS addiction recovery

LDS Family Services addiction recovery meetings every Tuesday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the LDS chapel on 1030 S. 900 West, in the Relief Society room, Tooele. Enter on the west side of the church. The handicap entrance is on the south side of the church. This meeting addresses all addictions or character weaknesses. No children please. No referral needed. There is no charge to attend.

LDS addiction family support

If you have a loved one who is struggling with addictions of any kind, find help and support Sunday evenings from 7:30-9 p.m. at the Erda Ward building at 323 E. Erda Way. Enter on the east side of the building and go into the Relief Society room. No referral needed. There is no charge to attend.

LDS porn addiction program

An LDS Pornography Addiction Recovery Support group meeting will be held every Friday evening from 7:30-9 p.m., Stansbury Stake Center, 417 E. Benson Road, Stansbury Park. Enter on the southwest side of building. Separate men’s recovery (for men struggling with pornography addictions) and women’s support meetings (for women whose husbands or family members are struggling with pornography) are held at the same time. No referral needed. There is no charge to attend.

The Healing Hearts

The Healing Hearts is a free group for families who have ever lost a child, delivered a stillborn or had a miscarriage. Meet with other families that have suffered a loss. We are parents living through the grief process together. Come and share experiences, coping skills and comfort methods. Family members and close friends (support) are welcome.
